  1. Jam was developed in order to make use of all the glass jars that were sitting around empty.
  2. The name 'jam' is descriptive of how it is actually produced, by pressing, or jamming, piles of fruit into the jars.
  3. Marmalade, whilst superficially very similar to jam, is different in the method of production. Rather than jamming the fruit into the jars, the fruit is first marmalised.
  4. 82.29% of jam is made by cows.
  5. Jam (with butter or margarine according to taste) is a perfect accompaniment to Weetabix.
  6. Raspberry jam is obtained by quickly removing the trumpets from jazz musicians.
  7. 17.71% of jam is eaten with cheese.
  8. Jam makes a fine base for cooking sauces.
  9. To show your appreciation of a fine jam, it is traditional to shout 'squee' to the chef.
  10. Jam Thursday was initiallised in the mid 18th century.
